I feel like I spent a ridiculous amount of time on eBay looking for good laptop deals. My own laptop has been dying a slow and excruciating death right before my eyes, and one of these days I know it will be the end for it, and I probably won’t get any warning when it happens.
I tried shopping at Best Buy for a new laptop, but the only laptop deals they were prepared to offer me involved so many extras that it hardly felt like a deal when the salesman finished tacking on all sorts of useless garbage to my system. I don’t play video games very much on my laptop and I also don’t need it for storing movies. I mainly just need a laptop for writing and checking my email since my desktop computer can handle anything more complicated than that.
I decided to not even bother checking other computer stores like Circuit City and Comp USA, and instead went online to eBay to see if I could find better laptop deals. The problem with eBay is that you have to trust that what people tell you about the product they’re selling is true, like that the computer hasn’t been dropped or damaged in a way that could come back to haunt you once you’ve purchased it and had it for a while. Sites like eBay are great for lots of different things, and finding laptop deals was relatively easy. Most times when people are selling their laptop it’s so that they can upgrade to a better model and they know they won’t get back the money that they spent on the machine. In some cases, it can be better to buy a used laptop from an individual.
I also found lots of laptops and computer hardware that had been reconditioned, and that means that a new machine has been created out of parts of old ones. Sometimes you can get good laptop deals this way, but generally you’re going to have to pay for the labor involved in creating the new machine. The best thing I could do when looking to replace my laptop was just to figure out exactly what I needed in a machine and then look around on the internet for good laptop deals on the specifics I required. I eventually got a great deal on a used HP and I was able to buy it before my current laptop broke down on me. Once I back everything up I plan to sell my old laptop on eBay and see what I can get for it.
And with the history I’ve described, and the small problems that have been plaguing my own machine, I know how important it is for the buyer to beware when purchasing used products. You just never know what you’ll get.
