Have you ever had the opportunity to see a blockbuster movie? Of course you must have seen it in the cinemas, but what I meant to ask is, have you ever seen through a blockbuster movie? If you have, then you would have noticed a couple of salient aspects. But before we get into all that, we need to understand what exactly constitutes a blockbuster movie in the first place! A typical blockbuster movie has some common elements. First and foremost, it will usually have some big names associated with it. The bigger the names, the higher the expectations. And the higher the expectations, the bigger the distribution rights figures. It is a circle that is far from vicious, especially when it comes to the making of money.
The next mandatory element is a high profile story line that spans a couple of continents, exotic locations and has some amazing sets. The bigger, more fantastic and weirder the sets, the better it serves to enhance the blockbuster movie quality of the production. The third defining aspect pertains to the roping in of some big name artistes from a non-movie background. Remember ‘Die another Day’ – the bond flick with Pierce Brosnan? Well, in case you recall, it had Madonna in it. What purpose she served in the movie or even the plot is anyone’s guess. But she sure piqued the interest of several people sufficiently for them to go and see the movie. And finally, the one thing that no blockbuster movie is ever complete without is money… and loads of it! Most blockbuster moview I have had the opportunity to see have spared no expense in getting all the action and all the passion on screen. Thinking about Egypt? Build a life size set. Want a futuristic world, take over Texas and put a dome over it. Money never seems to be a restricting factor. That is essentially what a blockbuster movie is all about.
But come to think of it, take any movie with the above elements… a stellar cast…. Some fine locations…. Big names associated with it and a boundless source of money…. And wonder why any movie with all these would not be a blockbuster movie? I mean with all these elements in the right proportion, is there any other reason why a movie cannot become a blockbuster movie. But my point is not that. Ever notice how some of the so called critical aspects of the movie business like a good script, a nice and riveting plot, some strong characterization and even some good acting are invariably missing?
Also, are you in love with
online movie rental? Well, maybe that's just me, but you certainly have to appreciate the innovative concept. I mean, why didn't I come up with the online movie rental game? It's like that darn Paypal business. That should have been mine as well. The truth is if you're sick and tired of fighting the crowds just to rent a good movie, then you no longer have to. That's right; you can turn to the contemporary online movie rental process known as Netflix. I have been taking advantage of this service for about a year now, and I simply love it. All I need is my trusty laptop and Internet connection. Within minutes I can have several movies on the way. Once you set up your online movie rental account with Netflix, it's as easy as browsing through titles. You click ADD on the ones you want. This adds the DVD to your rental list. You can even rearrange the order of your picks. This allows you to get certain ones you wish to see more, first. It's that easy. Being a movie nut myself, I have to say that I was a tad skeptical regarding the online movie rental selection, but I have to say it's great so far. Virtually everything I'm looking for is available. And the best part is I receive the films in one or two business days. This makes it simple to prepare for the weekend ahead.
