What ever happened to Atari? Remember back in the day when you used to rush home from school and get all excited about playing "Pong." That was the bomb back then! Or there was my personal favorite, "Pitfall." Yeah, now we're talking. We had tons of Atari fun with "Berserk," "Pacman," "Frogger," and "Centipede." Yep, those were the good old days. I definitely remember the violence content in those retro games. There basically wasn't any. Well, unless you call a yellow head chomping down on a bunch of white dots, violence. Of course I certainly can't say the same thing about a Playstation 2 or xbox video game. These contemporary past-times are utterly loaded with violence, adult situations, and profanity. One has to stop and wonder at some point what we're doing with new-age video games.
Are you a big fan of xbox video game systems? Well, if you're not, then I'm going to guess that you're one of two things. You are either a hardcore devotee of Playstation 2, or you're a woman. Ha, that's pretty funny if I do say so myself. In my experience, women typically hate video games. They think they're a complete waste of valuable time. However, straightening your hair for an hour is a way to spend your day wisely. Anyway, the modern-day xbox video game is getting out of hand in my opinion. Doesn't anyone else think that we're promoting too much violence and insensitivity to the harsh realities of our world? Think about this for a moment before you say no. Kids enjoy hours and hours of video games on a daily basis. They sit and shoot their opponents like it's no big thing. They're consistently exposed to prostitution, profanity and senseless crimes. Is this really a prudent way to raise our youth? My guess is no. We definitely do not want them taking these issues lightly. Nor do we want them to adopt a life of crime. However, the contemporary xbox video game may be confusing them on some level. Do they truly understand the difference between the game and the real world?
You can hop on the web at any given time and pinpoint the xbox video game of your choice. It all comes that easy in this cyberspace-connected world. This goes the same for virtually anything your little heart desires. On the other hand, I'd think twice before buying that new xbox video game for your child. Do you know what you're exposing him/her to?
